There are many “Business for sale” ads placed by the business owners in the different media with one key phrase included: “No Business Brokers, please”. It should not be viewed as an indicator of the Business Brokers perception in the public eyes. There are definitely two major reasons why some business owners do not want to have professional Broker involved in the sale of their business:

1. There is no way I’m going to pay this much money to someone for selling my business.

2. “Handyman’s approach” - selling the business can not be more complicated than running it.

But no one claims that it is. It is just completely different type of an animal. Business in its own rights. An it exists for a reason.

What sellers do not fully realize, sale of the business on their own can easily turn into a full time job, interfering with their main responsibility - running a business they are trying to sell. With all dire consequences to follow, especially for the small businesses that are usually being built around the owner. Another big issue is a Confidentiality! Selling a business is completely different from selling real estate property.

When seller would like to get as much public attention as possible in RE market, the business sale requires complete Confidentiality from very beginning to the end of the process. Public exposure is harmful to the business as well as to the selling process itself. Here, at the SK Consulting Associates, the Confidentiality is a paramount!

Seller on its own would have to deal with a number of the buyer prospects. More than 90% of them will never move past that “prospect” stage, for one reason or another. Brokers like SK Consulting Associates are qualifying the buyers based on their creditworthiness, financials and experience. So the seller would have to meet only the buyers that match his business for sale profile. Our qualifying process closely resembles the one any financial institution will use to qualify potential buyer prospect for the loan. And, since we work with over 40 financial institutions, we can help our qualified buyers to get necessary financing for buying a business.

Selling a business is usually a long process. It is very important for the seller to find the right Business Broker. Not the loudest out of the pack, not the one bragging about the businesses he or she have sold in the past, but the one that you personally feel comfortable dealing with. One that do not have backlog with tens of businesses listed. One that would work hard for you.
